Program Description:
Participants will listen to a review of the current literature on whether to order a pre-op urinalysis prior to orthopedic surgeries and then have an opportunity to discuss challenging clinical scenarios and strategies for improvement.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Recognize the prevalence of asymptomatic bacteriuria in healthy young women and in women who reside in a long term care facility.
  2. Identify at least one risk to the patient when one orders a screening urinalysis prior to an orthopedic procedure.
  3. Identify three clinical scenarios where the best available evidence states that it is ok to screen for asymptomatic bacteriuria.

Target Audience:
Physicians and mid-level providers in orthopedic surgery. Quality professionals would also find this content useful.
